Laminate Timber Floors

Laminate Flooring

Unlike the timber engineered floor, the laminate is not real timber, it has a picture of timber impregnated on a board giving it the identical look of a timber floor. Laminate is a much cheaper option than real timber and is actually much more durable than real timber. The best thing about laminates flooring is the money saved on the easy DIY installation procces.

Laminate flooring comes pre- finished, which means your furniture can be put back in place as soon as your done. This product cannot be sanded or coated as it is “plastic like” and not timber. However, all have warranties against scratching and denting etc. Floor can float with underlay or be direct stuck to existing floor.

A Laminate consists of 4 layers as follows:

  • Top Layer – A sheet of clear paper cellulose impregnated with melamine and microscopic granules of aluminium oxide. The melamine assists the permanent bonding of the layers while the aluminium oxide affords the product extraordinary wear and scratch resistance.
  • The Design Layer – Four coloured printed paper that features the design and pattern of the quickstep laminate floor.
  • HDF Core – The core is high density fibreboard and has two purposes, the first is being moisture resistant and the second is indentation resistance.
  • The Bottom Layer – This layer stabilises the construction while providing additional resistance to moisture.

These layers are then heat pressed together in one large sheet and then cut and allowed to acclimatise in large conditioning rooms. The sheets are then cut into various sizes, they are then profiled with their own specific joining system, quality checked, boxed and distributed.
